DEMOLITION work is underway on a public toilet block in Weston-Super-Mare – with new facilities coming soon.
The old block, in Grove Park, Weston, is being knocked down ahead of a major overhaul of the space, including a new main entrance, additional planting, new seating, installation of a sustainable drainage system, re-surfacing and signage.
A new public toilet block, to include an accessible toilet and baby changing facilities, will also be constructed in the park, near the café.
“For public safety and to enable the contractor to work efficiently, certain areas of the park will need to close temporarily while this work is being carried out,” a council spokesperson said.
“Please strictly adhere to signage, barrier tape and fencing in place for health and safety reasons.”

Elsewhere, some pay-and-display parking bays at the Grove Park car park, in Grove Road, will also need to be temporarily suspended at times during the work.
“While the car park will remain open throughout the work, there will be limited parking at times,” the spokesperson went on.
“Signage and barriers will be installed when these closures are necessary.”

The work is due to complete by spring next year.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused while the work’s being carried out,” the council added. “We hope people will be pleased with the improvements we have planned.
“This project is part of our ambitious placemaking vision for the town, made possible thanks to our successful bid for £20m from the UK Government.”
