Taunton & Wellington Lib Dems unveil new offices in county town

THE Liberal Democrats have a new office in Taunton.

Members of Taunton and Wellington branch of the party gathered at the new Castle Street base on Sunday (July 27), where MP Gideon Amos cut the ribbon alongside John Wakefield, chair of the group.

Mr Wakefield welcomed attendees to the gathering and thanked them for their support for the Liberal Democrats, as well as paying tribute to members and donors “whose vision to obtain a new base to become a permanent Liberal fixture in this town has become a reality and I’m delighted”.

He praised the efforts of party members in recent years, which has seen the Lib Dems gain control of Somerset Council and Taunton Town Council, as well as seeing Mr Amos elected to the Taunton & Wellington seat in parliament.

“Gideon is a wonderful, hard working Liberal Democrat MP,” Mr Wakefield added.

Mr Amos, who will be based in a separate but adjoining office, said the premises were needed to boost efforts “to deliver for local people”.

“We have just written a three-year plan about consolidating and making this Parliamentary seat not just a Liberal Democrat seat but a fortress from which to expand and get more MPs at the next General Election – and retain control of the town council and Somerset Council,” he added.

“We have written that plan, we’ve started work on it and thank you so much for getting us to where we are today.”

John could you please advise me who Is the branch chairman under the new country structure. I apologise if I’ve got this wrong. I used to work along side Pauline Sturgess and many others. Sadly I have now been diagnosed with dementia but I still know rubbish when it’s printed in WWN. I want to respond to this but don’t want to tread on party lines. Best wishes Peter
