PLANS to revamp Frome Skatepark are coming to fruition – and people are being encouraged to have their say.
Frome Town Council (FTC) is calling on skaters, riders, parents, families and more to help shape a new facility to replace the ageing ramps at the Mary Baily Playing Field.
“As we move into the design and consultation phase please join us as we fundraise to create the best skatepark we can for Frome,” a spokesperson said.
An in-person consultation is set to take place on March 13 between 3pm and 7.30pm at Frome Town Hall, where representatives from the Maverick design team will be on hand to answer questions and take suggestions.
“We’re now moving towards the next exciting stage: turning ideas, energy and ambition into a real, lasting skatepark,” an FTC spokesperson said.
“This is your chance to have a say on the design and support our fundraising: with support and fundraising, we have the chance to create a really special space that will inspire confidence, encourage creativity and provide connection for generations to come.”

Plans for a new skatepark have been in the offing since around 2019, when the existing skatepark began to show its age, and young people and families raised concerns over safety, accessibility and lack of progression.
In August last year, FTC committed to progressing the project, which would see the skatepark relocated near the younger children’s play area.
And the current consultation is the latest stage of the scheme to bring the new-look skatepark to life, with FTC pledging to stick to a co-design approach it says putts “young people at the heart of the decision-making process”.
“We didn’t want something designed for young people without young people. Their voices have shaped this from the start and we want them to be at the heart of this project,” said FTC environment manager, Rob Holden.
Now, fundraising is set to hit full stride, as work on the design continues.
A council spokesperson added: “We’re excited about what’s taking shape, are really looking forward to working with Maverick and we hope the whole community will get behind fundraising for this important project.
“With your support, we can create something truly special for Frome’s skaters and wheelers.”
