A303 reopens following vehicle fire

A VEHICLE was on fire on a major Somerset route last night.

A lane of the A303 near to Sparkford Hill was closed this morning (February 7) as firefighters tackled the blaze.

The road has since been re-opened.

The RAC said: “Emergency repairs complete, earlier vehicle fire, lane re-opened on entry slip road

“A303 Westbound lane re-opened on entry slip road, emergency repairs complete and earlier vehicle fire at A359 (Hazelgrove roundabout).”

Fire engines from both Wincanton and Castle Cary attended the incident at around 6.26pm.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Fire Crews used one hose reel jet and two breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire.”
