Avon & Somerset Police are appealing to the public for help after a woman ended up in a canal in Bridgwater. The incident happened yesterday (Sunday 29 August) at around 4.30-5.00pm. The woman was found in a stretch of the Bridgwater to Taunton canal behind Morrisons on Broadway,

A passer saw the woman in the water and called the Police. The Police rescued the woman from the water and she was checked over by medics. She declined hospital treatment.

The woman explained that a man had assaulted her and pushed her into the water. She added that the man was known to her. Police later arrested a man in his 50s nearby. He remains in police custody.
