REVIEW: EZVIZ EL3 – An accessible route to high-tech home security

HOME security is a growing area of concern for people across the country.

And in a world of technology, many are in search of ways to protect their property, while not burdening themselves with complicated gadgets and gizmos.

As we make the transition to a technological world some of us thought only possible in Star Trek episodes – from camera doorbells to voice-operated appliances – that search becomes more relevant.

One device aimed at this market is the EZVIZ EL3, which aims to incorporate a range of home security tech currently in the spotlight, as it were.

The EL3 is a censor-activated light – though it is much cleverer than that – as well as a CCTV camera, and an alarm system, in one.

And it is full of very techie features – but without the need for a computer science degree to understand it all, which is helpful for folks (like me), who might be feeling a bit daunted by the rate of progression in tech at the moment.

Yes, features of the EL3 sound complicated; from ‘AI-powered shape detection’ to ‘license plate recognition’, but the fact is, you don’t need to know how this stuff works to enjoy the benefits they bring.

The EL3 is, if you like, an entry-level piece of high-tech gadgetry for the home.

First things first, it’s relatively easy to install. Yes, you need to drill to put it up, but that would be expected for something outside. And actually, it’s as idiot-proof as it can be, with a template guiding you on where to take the plunge and drill!

Once it’s charged and on the wall, the fun can really begin. As all of the settings are managed through a smartphone app, so you can play with them sitting in your favourite armchair, or set your night-time security from bed (not having to move after inevitably forgetting to do it).

It’s really very clever too. The EL3 can be set for a light to come on at certain times, for example, and you can also see a live camera output, or change the brightness etc.

Not only that, but it will detect when someone approaches and can even track them as they move around – like something out of Star Trek.

The EL3 will also detect the numberplates of any visiting vehicle so, should the need arise, you can identify the vehicle that visited while you were out.

Handy indeed.

Aside from all that, it is also a basic garden light, which you can switch on from your phone as you stumble trying to put the bins out in the early-morning gloom, or put away the children’s bikes after dark (because they ‘forgot’).

You can also set it to whatever brightness and strength you like, should you be out in the garden on a summer evening, or you have a family member determined not to stop gardening, despite the sun going down.

So, from the very basic needs to some very clever security devices, the EL3 has you covered.

Combined with the fact it’s easy to set up (and easy to play with), as well as being very affordable (you can find it for around £100), the EL3 is the perfect place to start for people looking to dip their toe in the water of tech in their home.
