PLANS to build a nine-flat apartment block in Yeovil have been refused over claims it would not be in harmony with its surroundings.
Applicant Mr Studley applied to build an apartment block consisting of six one-bed flats and three two-bed flats at land adjourning 3 Everton Road, complete with four unallocated parking spaces.
But the plans, which faced opposition from neighbours and Yeovil Town Council when they were first submitted back in 2021, have been refused by Somerset Council.
In the decision notice, the council said the plans were refused on grounds the apartment building would be “overly dominant” given the scale of the proposed development compared to its surroundings.
It went further to say that the building would not integrate appropriately with its surroundings and would cause harm to the character and appearance of the area.

Neighbours had also written in to raise their objections, stating the already “major” parking issues in the area would be exacerbated should the flats be built.
The plans only provided four parking spaces for the nine flats, something they say would not be sufficient given the nine homes could potentially house 18 or more residents.
Commenting on the plans, John Evans said: “This area is already a very busy residential area for parking, many of the residents having to park further and further away from their houses, and causing the homeowners stress, anxiety and a huge inconvenience.”
Georgina Clarke said the plans would be detrimental to residents who are already finding it difficult to park.
She said: “As lovely an idea as this application is, the area currently cannot withstand the parking requirements of all the residents without adding the pressure of nine flats (which could potentially have 18+ residents) with only the allocation of four parking spaces.
“It’s almost impossible to park around our home at the moment, and it’s a bit of a liberty when we pay a lot of money to do so.”
