WORK is underway to demolish Glovers Walk in Yeovil.
The town centre site is at the heart of regeneration plans for Yeovil, one of four key sites in the Refresh scheme.
Councillor Mike Rigby, Somerset Council’s lead member for economic development, planning and assets was on site to witness the start of the work, alongside MP Adam Dance (Lib Dem, Yeovil).
Glovers Walk was bought by Somerset Council in September 2024 thanks to Government funding from the Future High Street Fund (FHSF).
The long-term plan, over three to five years, is to redevelop the 2.2-acre site for mixed use – housing and retail – alongside a new transport interchange.

During the demolition work, being carried out by Walters UK, a passenger waiting room and toilets will be reinstated at the bus station.
Meanwhile, a council survey launched in partnership with the community and groups Love Yeovil and Yeovil Art Space is gathering views on how the site can be used as work continues.
Plans for the transition phase include artwork on the hoardings around the site and more.

Cllr Rigby said: “Yeovil Refresh is a major investment in the town, and the Glovers Walk site will be an integral part of a rejuvenated town centre.
“It is really exciting to get to this next stage – this site has so much to offer and we’re grateful to the community and local partners for their input so far.
“It is going to take time and we want to ensure we bring local people with us – so far their views have been vital to understanding what the future site will look like.”
Mr Dance said: “The demolition of Glovers Walk is a significant step forward in Yeovil’s regeneration. For too long, this site has stood as a symbol of decline—but now it represents an opportunity for fresh ideas, local pride, and economic renewal.
“I’m particularly pleased to see Somerset Council working in partnership with community groups like Love Yeovil and Yeovil Art Space to ensure local voices shape the future of the town centre.”
