SPECIALIST contractors have started work on the repair of a Somerset block of flats hit by fire – leaving residents homeless for Christmas.
The block, in Marigold Road, Frome, was evacuated after a blaze broke out at around 7.50pm on December 3.
Part of the roof collapsed during the fire, with residents moved to emergency accommodation – and still unsure of when they might be able to return.
Owner of the block, Selwood Housing, has now confirmed work is underway to bring the block back into use.
“Specialist contractors (have begun) work at the Marigold Road flats which were damaged by (the) fire, to safely dismantle and remove the gable end,” a spokesperson said.

“We continue to be in daily contact with the nine customers directly affected, and are working closely with Somerset Council, Frome Town Council, Fair Frome and Frome Rotary to ensure they have everything they need for now and longer-term.”
The community rallied round after the blaze, ensuring those affected received essentials they needed in the aftermath of the fire.
