Unusually secure Somerset property set for auction sale – a former bank vault!

A MINEHEAD property set to be sold at auction next month should be secure – as it is a former bank vault.

The unusual lot, to the rear of the former Barclays bank in The Parade, has planning permission for a two-bedroom apartment, and will go under the hammer at a February 11 sale held by Clive Emson Auctioneers with a guide price of £38,000.

Senior auction appraiser, Audrey Smith, said: “The site is located in Minehead town centre, a busy seaside town on the North Somerset coast.

“The vault is in the rear tenement of what was previously Barclays Bank and represents one of the more unusual lots at auction although we regularly have former bank premises in their entirety.

“It comes with benefit of planning permission for conversion into a two-bedroom residential apartment. We expected interest from builders and small developers as well as those on the look out for an intriguing project.”

Elsewhere at the auction, another property in The Parade – a former coach house site – has a freehold guide of £42,000, and comes with planning permission for conversion into a single dwelling.

Also among lots is a Court Farm Bungalow, in Butleigh, near Glastonbury, with a freehold guide price of £390,000.

The two/three-bedroom bungalow now requires repair and updating and also has potential for conversion of further attic space, subject to all the necessary consents.

Audrey said: “Interest is likely to come from buyers looking for a unique family home, or for builders for post works onward sale.”

It is being auctioned in arrangement with Tor Estates.

In Bere Lane, Glastonbury, a two-bedroom house has a freehold guide of £150,000 plus. The end-terrace cottage has a garden with a patio and summer house and, lawn, and is being auctioned in arrangement with Tor Estates.

In West Huntspill, near Highbridge, a two-bedroom house has a freehold guide of £125,000 plus.
The extended house, in Ringstone, requires updating and is expected to appeal to investors and owner-occupiers.

The Clive Emson online auction concludes on Wednesday, 11 February, with bidding live from 48 hours before. For more details, log on to www.cliveemson.co.uk.
