Three acres of farmland ‘destroyed’ by fire near Ilminster

AROUND three acres of farmland was affected by a fire near Ilminster.

At just after 1pm yesterday (July 13), a fire crew from Chard was sent to the scene, at Ashill, after reports of a blaze in an open field.

“When Chards pump arrived they were met with half an acre and a log pile on fire which was quickly spreading,” a Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said.

More firefighters were sent to the scene, with crews using “hose reel jets and beaters to limit the extent of damage”, they added.

In total, around three acres were “destroyed by fire”.
