Taunton Town seek new manager – as legend returns to role at the club

TAUNTON Town manager Richard Luffman has left the club after resigning.

The Southern League Premier Division South club confirmed the news on Saturday (December 13) following a 3-0 defeat at Worcestershire side, Evesham United.

It brought to an end Luffman’s 18-month spell in charge at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium, in Wordsworth Drive, with assistant manager Liam Harding and first-team coach David Steele also departing.
Immediately following the news, the club said: “We would like to thank Richard for his efforts during his tenure and wish him well for the future.”

On Monday (December 15), the board of directors issued a letter thanking the former manager for his efforts.

“All at Taunton Town Football Club would like to thank Richard Luffman for all of his efforts over the last 18 months,” they said.

“Richard has worked tirelessly and passionately to reunite the club, its supporters, and all those associated with it.

“There have been some great moments along the way, including a memorable FA Cup run, a Somerset Cup win, and several other special occasions.

“Richard’s coaching staff also played a big part during his tenure at the club, with special mention to Liam Harding for his efforts.

“We wish them all every success in the future, and they will always be welcome at TTFC.”

Luffman took the helm following Taunton’s relegation back to the Southern Premier League, inherited a club with no registered players or footballing staff.

In 2024/25, the Peacocks reached the Fourth Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup and secured a ninth-place league finish, as well as picking up the Francis Hillier Premier Cup.

The search for a new manager is now underway, as the club also unveiled a series of appointments to leadership roles.

They include Peter Headington as general manager, TTFC legend Lloyd Irish as head of football, Richard Smith as community engagement officer, Beth Milton as bar and events manager, and Debbie Gould as head of matchday operations.

Chair of the club, Brian Pollard, added: “Our club means so much to the community, and these appointments reflect our ambition to grow both on and off the pitch.

“We want to make our facilities more accessible, engage with local communities, and build a fanbase that truly represents the spirit of the Peacocks.

“The size of our club dictates that we should have a greater operational presence. It is not possible for one person to run our club successfully, and with these new fantastic appointments, the club is now in a far stronger position.

“We would love you all to rally round and help us achieve our goals. I can’t wait to see you all on the 27th.”

That day will see the Peacocks host Gloucester City in a league tie, with kick-off at 3pm.
