TAUNTON Carnival returns tomorrow (October 18) with carts set to hit the road at 7pm.
The event will feature the usual procession through the town centre, starting out from Tangier Way, with performances starting from the third way bridge.
From there, the procession will head to Wood Street, turn right into Bridge Street, up North Street and at the roundabout outside Market House, will take the first exit to East Street before going down over East Reach, where it will finish at the traffic lights at the bottom.
Road closures will be in place, as well as parking restrictions on the route – with vehicles being towed if they remain in place.
Taunton Carnival 2025 road closures and parking restrictions:
- Castle Street (Castle Street Car Park entrance to Tangier Car park entrance) – closed from 2.30pm
- Tangier Way (Riverain Court to Castle Street) – closed from 2.30pm. Access to Lidl and Tesco from Wellington Road is not affected.
- Roads on the procession route – Wood Street (Tangier Way to Bridge Street), Bridge Street, The Bridge, North Street, Fore Street, East Street, East Reach and Chritchard Way – will close from 6.30pm
- Hammet Street and part of Corporation Street will also close at 6.30pm to protect approaches to the route
All parking along the route is suspended from 6.30pm. Tow away powers may be used to remove any vehicles parked on the route after that time. - Vehicles will be able to access and exit the Wood Street area via the road next to Taunton Funeral Services.
- The one-way system will be replaced by stop/go controls. There is no access to Tesco or Wellington Road through this area.
- Roads will re-open along the route in stages as soon as it is safe to do so.All Somerset Council car parks, except Enfield, are open as usual. The Orchard multi-storey will close at 7pm as usual.
