Taunton Brewhouse boss honoured with community apprenticeship award

AN EXECUTIVE at the Taunton Brewhouse theatre has been honoured with a special community award.

Vickie Robbins, executive director at the Coal Orchard venue, was recognised with the Community Impact Award at the University of Wolverhampton’s Apprenticeship Gala.

The award celebrates apprentices who go above and beyond to use their knowledge and skills in support of local communities.

Nominees are judged on their commitment to enhancing access and participation, supporting social mobility, and improving community wellbeing.

Vickie, who is currently undertaking a senior leadership apprenticeship with the university, was praised for her efforts making the arts accessible and meaningful for all.

“I was truly surprised and humbled to receive this recognition,” she said. “I believe our engagement within the Taunton community is so important, and that we should make the most of our resources to support all the residents and visitors to the town.”

Among her achievements is the creation of Movie Mondays, a weekly cinema club which has grown into a much-loved social gathering for older patrons, as well as expanding the theatre’s outreach by introducing Warm Spaces and Pay It Forward ticketing schemes, enabling families and individuals facing financial hardship to experience performances and activities.

Vickie has also built meaningful partnerships with charities, offering them space, resources, and support, and has ensured that the Brewhouse works hand-in-hand with services that support some of the town’s most vulnerable people.

The theatre has also been recognised as one of the most age-friendly organisations in the region, winning Gold at the Bristol and Bath Tourism Awards.

Vickie added: “I accepted this award on behalf of the whole staff and volunteer team who deliver our community programme.

“Being a mature student studying for a master’s degree in strategic leadership has been challenging but extremely rewarding, and this award is just the icing on the academic cake.”
