PLANS for a new indoor swimming pool for use by holiday lets near Ilminster have been submitted.
Architects Orme have submitted plans to develop the facility in a “historic courtyard” at the listed Dillington Farm House, at Eaglewood Park, which neighbours the Dillington Estate.
“The purpose of the pool is to be used by a collection of holiday lets on site,” it said.
The site was previously home to a swimming pool, constructed around 2010, but is now in a “poor state”, the application said, with the new development set to improve the condition of the plot.
“While outdoor swimming pools are common in rural domestic curtilages, the indoor form has been chosen to allow year-round use, improve energy efficiency, and ensure greater visual and acoustic containment within the sensitive setting of the listed building,” the application went on.
“The proposal represents a low-impact enhancement to the property’s residential function and enjoyment, consistent with its long-term use as a family dwelling.”
