THE Chew Valley, described as a “hunk of prime English countryside”, has been crowned the best place to live in the southwest for 2025.
Found in North Somerset near Bristol, the collection of “picture-perfect” villages has been praised for having community at its fore.
The Chew Valley was revealed as the southwest regional winner in the Sunday Times Best Places to Live in the Southwest guide which was released today (March 21).
The Sunday Times’ expert judges assessed factors from schools to transport, broadband speeds and mobile signal to culture, as well as access to green spaces and the health of the high street.
The judges said: “A combination of beautiful landscapes and forward-thinking rural enterprises make this hunk of prime English countryside the perfect place to put down deep rural roots.

“Community is to the fore in its picture-perfect villages, and the proximity of Bristol brings creative energy while keeping the buzz and convenience of the city within easy reach.”
Saffron Walden in Essex was named the overall best place to live in the UK for 2025.
