Somerset village route re-opens after two-month closure for wall repairs

A TWO-MONTH road closure has come to an end in a Somerset village.

Cothelstone Road, in Bishops Lydeard, was closed in late January to allow work to repair and rebuild a retaining wall to take place.

Now, Somerset Council says the route re-opened on Thursday (March 21) – a week ahead of schedule.

Councillor Richard Wilkins (Lib Dem, Curry Rivel & Langport), the council’s lead member for transport and digital, said: “It’s always difficult for residents when you have to close a road and we only do it when we really have to.

“I’m delighted that the team as managed to get this work done so quickly and thank everyone for their patience.”

The work included repairs to an existing masonry wall and construction of a new retaining wall and drainage.
