WE all have our idea of a dream property – a sprawling country estate, or an elegant London townhouse, perhaps – but what about a reservoir?
Well, that is on offer in Somerset, with a Victorian-constructed reservoir and attached buildings is going up for auction.
Being marketed by Greenslade Taylor Hunt (GTH), Wembdon Reservoir, at Sandford Hill, Bridgwater, is among lots for sale – with a guide price of £220,000.
The property, of around 1.4 acres, is made up of a multi-chamber brick structure, which the listing says is “made of six rows of brick vaulted arches with 28 brick vaulted domes around the perimeter”.
“The structure is approximately 32m x 32m wide x 4.3m high internally in the form of a cross and a series of cross supports,” it went on.
“The reservoir is contained in a raised soil mound occupying the rear two thirds of the site.
“Outside the reservoir, the front third of the site comprises a small building housing redundant pumps and valves access to the site and trees.
“The site is post and rail fenced to the north with brick walls to the southern and eastern boundaries.”
The listing said the property offered “development potential subject to planning”.
