Somerset MP tables motion in parliament to celebrate Lando Norris’ Formula 1 world title

SOMERSET MP Sarah Dyke (lib Dem, Glastonbury & Somerton) has congratulated county-raised Lando Norris on his Formula 1 world title in Parliament.

Norris, who grew up in Glastonbury and went to school in Street, became Britain’s 11th Formula One World Champion last weekend following the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

In celebration, Ms Dyke tabled an Early Day Motion in Parliament celebrating the former Millfield School pupil’s achievement.

“I send my huge congratulations to Lando Norris on his amazing achievement, after a phenomenal season,” she said.

“He has done Glastonbury proud, and I know people right across our community are just delighted he’s done so well.

“To see someone who grew up in Glastonbury and went to school in Street reach the pinnacle of world motorsport is incredibly inspiring.

“Lando is a fantastic ambassador for Glastonbury and British Motorsports – I wish him many years of continued success in his Formula One career.”

“That this House congratulates Lando Norris on becoming Britain’s 11th Formula One World Champion; notes that following his third place finish at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix yesterday, Norris topped the 2025 Formula One World Driver’s Championship with 7 wins and 18 podiums amassing a total of 423 championship points; understands that Lando’s World Championship has delivered McLaren’s first title since 2008; praises the tireless work of McLaren, based at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking; further notes that Lando was raised in Glastonbury and attended Millfield School in Street, with the area having played a central role in the formative years of his life and karting career, having started racing to the age of 8 before going onto compete in OK-Junior Class racing; further praises Lando on a phenomenal season in Formula One, being a great source of pride for the local community; and wishes him a further success in his Formula One career.”
