A SOMERSET hospice was evacuated after fire broke out – with two members of staff taken to hospital.
Staff and patients at Jackson-Barstow House, in Uphill, Weston-super-Mare, were taken to nearby Westhaven School after the incident, on Thursday morning (November 20).
A spokesperson for Weston Hospicecare, which runs the facility, said it was “a small, contained fire”.
“All patients and volunteers were safely evacuated and two members of staff were taken to hospital as a precaution,” they went on.
“Thanks to the fast actions of our team and the swift response of Avon Fire and Rescue Service, the incident was quickly brought under control and services are now returning to normal.
“Special thanks to our neighbours at Westhaven School who welcomed us into their building with hot drinks and biscuits so that patients and our team could wait in the warm.
“Thank you to everyone for your support and understanding.”
