SOMERSET darts sensation Justin Hood wowed the crowds at Ally Pally as he made the third round of the PDC World Championship on Tuesday (December 23) – beating sixth seed Danny Noppert.
Glastonbury native Hood, who now lives in Weston-Super-Mare, won a dramatic sudden-death leg to make the last 32 in his debut appearance at the flagship tournament.
Before the tight finish, Somerset slinger Hood, 32, missed a dart at the bull to win in straight sets.
But despite a dramatic fightback from Noppert, the county dartist – ranked 86 in the world – held his nerve to land a 78 checkout in the final leg.
He will now face fellow left-hander Ryan Meikle in the third round.
Hope and Noppert averaged more than 102 in their dramatic match-up, hitting more than 40% of their attempts at doubles.
After the win, Hood told Sky Sports: “It was a good game and I knew it would be because Danny is a class player.
“I don’t worry about the pressure, I just throw the darts and if it’s good enough, it’s good enough. Tonight it was.”
Hood is due to take on Meikle on Monday (December 29).
