Somerset cottage – in need of renovation – up for auction: See how much…

A SOMERSET cottage in need of renovation is being put up for auction – with a sizeable asking price.

Cranmore Cottage, at East Cranmore, between Frome and Shepton Mallet, is part of a Cooper and Tanner auction on May 15 at the Royal Bath & West Showground, and has a guide price of between £550,000 and £600,000.

The “charming” five-bed period property, refurbished in the 1980s, is set in around 2.5 acres of gardens.

“Now requiring renovation and improvement, Cranmore Cottage offers a wealth of scope and potential to be a wonderful family home,” the listing said.

It will be the first time the house has come up for sale since it was bought from the Cranmore Hall estate in the 1930s.

“It truly is a gem of a property, largely constructed from limestone and sandstone, some of which dates to the mid-1600s,” the listing went on.

“The house was modernised in the 1980s and now has tremendous potential for renovation and improvement as a wonderful family home.

“It includes approximately 2.46 acres of outbuildings, gardens and paddock and would suit those with horses or livestock.

“The accommodation is beautifully proportioned with high ceilings, a wide oak staircase, open fireplaces throughout, a large upstairs landing and light, airy rooms.”
