Somerset celebrates new Lord Lieutenant cadets

FIVE new cadets have been appointed as Lord-Lieutenant cadets in Somerset for the coming year.

The annual honour highlights cadets who have demonstrated remarkable contributions and leadership within their respective cadet forces.

The Lord-Lieutenant cadets will assist the Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset at official engagements throughout the year, proudly serving as ambassadors for the cadet forces.

A spokesperson for Wessex Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association said: “Their appointment reflects not just their personal achievements, but also the values of teamwork and community service that underpin the cadet movement.”

The newly appointed Lord-Lieutenant cadets:

  • Cadet corporal Emily Lynn from Portishead detachment, Somerset Army Cadet Force, recognised for her dedication and leadership
  • Cadet flight sergeant Charlotte Weeks of 1032 (Yeovil) squadron, RAF Air Cadets, who “embodies the spirit of the RAFAC” by seeking new opportunities
  • Cadet sergeant Kara Campbell Meehan from Downside School Combined Cadet Force, noted for her confidence and eloquence in embracing challenges
  • Cadet sergeant major Olivia Doran from Wellington School Combined Cadet Force, celebrated for her determination and outgoing nature
  • Leading cadet Jessie Frost from Glastonbury and Street sea cadets, whose “enthusiasm and eagerness shine through her active participation.”

The ceremony, held at Bishops Hull Armed Reserve Centre the home of 675 Squadron 6 Army Air Corps, also celebrated the vital roles played by reservists, cadet force adult volunteers, and local employers.

A spokesperson said: “These individuals were acknowledged for their extraordinary commitment to supporting defence, reinforcing the community’s integral connection to the Armed Forces.”

During the event, the Lord-Lieutenant presented Lord-Lieutenant’s certificates for meritorious service to several individuals who have gone above and beyond in mentoring and supporting young people in the cadet program.

Additionally, local employers who provide vital support to Defence personnel, particularly reservists, received the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Awards.

These accolades celebrate businesses that actively contribute to the welfare of their employees serving in the Armed Forces.

“This recognition underscores the significant impact that dedicated adults have on the development of future leaders,” a spokesperson said.

In his address, the Lord-Lieutenant praised all awardees, emphasising their invaluable contributions to both the military and the wider community.
