SHEPTON Mallet is gearing up for carnival this evening (November 12) – with drivers being warned of road closures in place ahead of the event.
While a team of marshals will be on hand to advise and keep disruption to a minimum, people are being warned of changes to traffic tonight.
Road closures in place for Shepton Mallet Carnival on November 12 are:
Field House, Field View & Cannards Grave Road: Closed until midnight tonight
Parking for vehicles without private drives in Cannards Grave Road has been made available at the council offices. A pass will be posted to residents in Field View and lower Cannards Grave Road.
Until 11pm tonight, access to properties on Tadley Acres will be via Whitstone Road only, using Webber Road and Hobbs Road.
There will be no access or exit using Little Brooks Lane during this period.
Whitstone Road: The road will be closed from 7.30pm this evening until end of procession.
Tadley Acres: Access to properties on Tadley Acres will be via Whitstone Road only, using Webber Road and Hobbs Road, until 11pm tonight.
There will be no access or exit using Little Brooks Lane during this period.
The following roads will be closed from 6.45pm until the end of procession tonight: Cannards Grave Road, Townsend, Old Market Road, Commercial Road, Paul Street & Charlton Road.
Whitstone Road will close at 7.30pm.

“To leave Shepton Mallet after the procession Marshals will direct traffic to the nearest main road for onward travel,” a carnival spokesperson said.
“This may mean a small detour for some but it will be the quickest route home while the carnival is still progressing in other areas of the town and the carts are making their way to Wells on the A371, which will be closed until all carts have arrived at the Wells Relief Road at around midnight.”
