Shepton Mallet Carnival procession halted after performer fell from cart

CARTS at Shepton Mallet Carnival were halted for around an hour after a performer fell from a vehicle.

Last night’s procession was brought to a halt after the person fell from the Marketeers cart, entitled Magic Garden, resulting in them being taken to hospital.

Avon & Somerset Police the incident unfolded at around 8.40pm at Wednesday night’s carnival (November 12), though their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

A police spokesperson said: “We would like to thank members of the public and carnival participants for their patience and understanding.”

Marketeers Carnival Club said: “During the annual Shepton Mallet Carnival on Wednesday (November 12), a performer on our entry Magic Garden suffered a fall from the cart.

“Assessment and treatment was given on site and an ambulance was despatched to transport them to a local medical facility where they received treatment and are now recovering.

“Marketeers CC would like to thank everyone who assisted with the emergency to the public for their understanding and the carnival community for their kind words.”

Newmarket Carnival Club said: “As a club we would like to wish the injured person from Marketeers Carnival Club a full and speedy recovery.

“We must also give a big shout out to the amazing Marshalls, St John’s ambulance and all the volunteers for helping keep us all safe.”

And Frome Carnival Club added: “Frome Carnival Club Sends heartfelt well wishes to the Marketeers CC performer for a speedy and full recovery.”

The carnival season continues this weekend, with Wells Carnival on Friday (November 14) and Glastonbury on Saturday.
