TRAFFIC lights and lane closures have been put in place on two main routes over the M5 near Bridgwater after “safety risks” were identified.
Traffic signals and lane closures have been put in place on both the A39 (Bath Road) and the A372 (Westonzoyland Road) over the M5, National Highways has said.
“Our inspections have identified defects with the expansion joints on both structures which we are not comfortable with traffic driving over due to the increased safety risk this will present,” according to a notification posted by Somerset Councillor, Diogo Rodrigues (Con, Bridgwater East & Bawdrip).
“We are working with colleagues at Somerset Council to identify the soonest possible night shift where we can make safe and remove the traffic signals.”
They added how the work is “reliant on mobilising specialist crews”.
