THE roof space of a building in the centre of Cannington was destroyed by fire on Saturday (August 23) morning.
Crews were called to the property, in the High Street, ay just after 4am and confirmed the roof space of the terraced building was alight.
Firefighters from Taunton, Bridgwater, Burnham-on-Sea, Nether Stowey, Street, Williton, Yeovil and Martock were sent to the scene.
Throughout the battle to contain the blaze, extra resources were requested, including extra pumps and an aerial ladder platform.

At just after 8am, a Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson confirmed the roof of the property, consisting of “ground floor commercial shops with private residential dwellings above” of around 80 metres x 15m in size, was completely destroyed, while the first floor was 50% damaged by fire, 100% damaged by smoke, and the ground floor 5% damaged by fire and 100% damaged by smoke and water.
Crews used eight breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, two main jets, one safety jet, one aerial ladder platform, one ejector pump, ladders, small tools and a thermal imaging camera to control and extinguish the fire.
