Public toilets in Taunton to re-open after redesign project

PUBLIC toilets in the centre of Taunton are set to re-open, it has been announced, thanks to an investment of £139,000.

Taunton Town Council (TTC) has revealed plans to re-open facilities in Paul Street – which closed in March last year.

A spokesperson said the move came after “residents told us loud and clear that better facilities were needed in the town centre”.

Work on the scheme is set to begin next month (August), with a re-opening later in the autumn.

TTC said the redesigned toilets would focus on single cubicles most with street access; better lighting; safety mirrors; no hidden corners; regular Street Marshal patrols; stoma-friendly features in every cubicle and Changing Places toilet with specialist fit-out.

Chair of the Major Projects Group, Cllr Federica Smith-Roberts, said: “This project is about listening and acting. Safe, accessible, and designed to last – everyone deserves to feel welcome in our town centre.”
