Plans for 75 new homes near Wellington submitted

PLANS for 75 new homes on greenfield land near Wellington have been submitted.

The scheme, submitted to Somerset Council by Polden Planning, on behalf of West of England Developments (Taunton) Ltd, would see the homes built on a site off the A38 West Buckland Road, south of Little Jurston.

As well as 75 new homes, the scheme includes plans for access, cycle links and a play area at the greenfield site, near Westpark.

The application said 25% of the proposed homes would designated as ‘affordable’, with access coming via a new junction off West Buckland Road.

“The existing field access at the north-east corner of the site would become a pedestrian and cycle link with a route along West Buckland Road separate to vehicle traffic linking up to the existing walking/cycling infrastructure at Westpark Business Park,” it said.

“Future occupiers would be able to access Westpark safely and easily via this route and travel on to local bus stops, Chelston Business Park, and the future local centre and school at Jurston Fields.”

A financial contributions could be made towards a planned new primary school at the nearby Jurston Fields development, the application said.

A public consultation process saw 19 feedback forms completed by residents, with concerns raised including; scale of development, congestion on roads, and impact on infrastructure and the environment.

No comprehensive details of design or layout of the site are included in the application, which is ‘outline’, in a bid to establish the principle of development.

Further details would be required in an additional planning application.

Don’t build on that side of the road, think about how busy that road is, and to turn out of the site is going to cause some serious traffic problems!
Where will the water that runs off the hills go with all this building! Straight onto the road and flood the houses on the other side! It will be disastrous!
We don’t need more large houses, that doesn’t help first time buyers with affordable housing!
They’re having trouble selling the new houses just down the road at Monument View, and at the yet to be built houses at Jurston Fields.
I believe there is a Phosphate problem there! This build will create a similar problem for the people who already live in Wellington!
How about some more info structure first, better roads more schools, more doctors, the local hospitals are overwhelmed already.
This is the start of building houses up to the Monument and the destruction of land that will never be brought back to nature.

We don’t have enough GP’s or dentists in Wellington to cope with the present population neither do we have the general infrastructure. Our roads are narrow & already congested & parking is a problem already.
