Plan for 20 new homes in Somerset village submitted

PLANS for 20 new homes in a Somerset village have been submitted.

The scheme would see the homes developed on land off Church Road, in East Huntspill.

Submitted by Notaro New Homes Ltd, the scheme would see two one-bedroom, two two-bedroom, three three-bedroom and one four-bedroom units built on the 1.8 hectare plot next to the village hall.

The application details how eight of the homes (40%) would be ‘affordable’, either for rent or shared ownership purchase.

“The development will deliver clear economic, social and environmental benefits,” the application said.

“The development will provide 20 additional dwellings including the identified local need for eight affordable homes for the area and thereby directly addresses an identified housing need.”

It said the homes would feature “attractive frontage designs” and are deemed to be of “high-quality” design.

“The landscape of the surrounding area has limited notable character and the proposals will relate well to the contiguous built-up area of Berrow and the surrounding area to the west,” the application added.

Access would come from Church Road, the application said, with affordable homes managed by Willowtree Housing.

Why is there twice as much road on this scheme than in necessary? One can only presume it’s to allow for future expansion of the scheme? As it is, the totally unnecessary tarmac is an environmental and aesthetic assault. I don’t understand, if consultations between developer and planning offices took place, prior to application, how can such a poor design solution be the result. Go back to the drawing board.
