One-acre Somerset plot sells for almost £90,000 ABOVE guide price at auction

A PIECE of Somerset land with a guide price of £30,000 eventually sold for a whopping £117,000 at a recent auction.

The plot, in Banwell, North Somerset, was among lots at the recent Greenslade Taylor Hunt (GTH) land and property auction, which saw potential buyers queueing out of the door.

A total of 23 lots went under the hammer at Batch Country House, Lympsham, with a number sold prior to the auction due to strong interest.

Auctioneer and Partner at GTH, Robert Baker, said: “It was an excellent auction from start to finish which saw prices exceed vendors’ expectations.”

The one-acre Banwell plot, the first of the sale, set the tone when it sold for a whopping £117,000.

Other notable prices included 5.57 acres of land at Priston, Bath, which achieved £205,000.

On the residential side, a three-bedroom property requiring complete renovation achieved £176,000, from a guide price of £100,000.

Robert added: “It was brilliant to see a packed auction room, with the sale totalling in excess of £2.4 million.

“In addition to in room bidders, we had a total of 16 bidders either online or on the telephone which added to the fierce competition on the day.”

GTH is hosting a property auction on Thursday, April 24, from 2pm at the Shrubbery Hotel, Ilminster, while entries are also being invited for the May auction on Wednesday, May 21, at the Aldwick Estate, Redhill.
