New transport hub to help travellers to and from Somerset hospital

TRAVEL to and from Weston General Hospital is set to get easier after the creation of a new transport hub.

Located near the entrance, the hub features a larger bus shelter, a screen showing digital timetables and improved and increased seating.

The facility is the first of several planned hubs in North Somerset, with larger sites planned for key towns in 2026, and comes after 150 bus stops were updated this year.

Cllr Hugh Malyan, Cabinet member for highways and transport at North Somerset Council, said: ”I’m delighted that works are starting to improve bus passenger facilities at Weston General Hospital.

“It is a key location for our residents, and we know that timely information and more comfortable shelters can make a real difference for the passenger experience.

“We hope these changes will encourage more people to choose public transport for their journeys to Weston General Hospital.”

Judith Hernandez del Pino, hospital director at Weston General, added: “We’re pleased to see these improvements completed at Weston General Hospital. The new transport hub makes it easier and more comfortable for patients, visitors, and staff to use public transport, supporting our commitment to accessibility and sustainability.

“We worked closely with North Somerset Council on the plans, and it’s great to see them come to life.”

The scheme was fully funded by the UK Government through the Bus Service Improvement Plan.
