TAUNTON Cricket Club could soon be making the most of a new, electronic scoreboard and store.
A planning application has been submitted by Trevor J Spurway on behalf of Taunton Vale Sports Club, for a new building at the Gipsy Lane ground.
As well as the scoreboard and storage space, the application also includes plans for a patio area outside the current pavilion building.
“This application is to create a new score hut and store for Taunton Cricket Club enhancing their pitch and allowing for the addition of a new, electronic, score board and a secure storage space alongside the pitch,” it said.
“The new patio space will allow for greater use of the area around the pavilion providing a hard surface for spectators and players.”

The plans, submitted to Somerset Council, said the new building would create a “visual image similar to that of the existing pavilion, creating an extension of this elevation”.
“Taunton Cricket Club have been advised that there is ECB (English Cricket Board) funding to enhance the opportunities for all ages and abilities to play cricket,” it added.
“Their funding rules require all proposals receive planning consent.

“In particular, the club has a strong youth section, disabled cricket section and a growing girls’/women’s section.
“The new facility will assist the diversity policy and improve opportunities for all members of the local community.”
The facility would include a “modern score hut with electronic sign” and a new store for equipment.
