RESIDENTS will be able to meet their MP in the pub or the coffee shop to let them know what’s happening.
Gideon Amos (Lib Dem, Taunton & Wellington) has unveiled plans for a series of surgeries in unlikely locations across the constituency.
The MP, who replaced Rebecca Pow at the July general election, first mooted the idea on social media.
“I’ve had a few people suggest I hold some informal surgeries for people who, as opposed to wanting a confidential chat about a complex case, would like to chat about local issues, national politics, policy or anything else,” he said.
“This would likely take place in a pub/coffee shop – I would let you know a time when I will be there, and anyone is welcome to join me for a drink and a chat.
“Of course, my usual private surgeries will continue to be held for people who have emailed me to assist with their issues.
“What do you think? Would this be useful? I’m very keen to break down the barriers of political representation which people increasingly feel, so any suggestions are most welcome.”
After the post, he said he had been ‘overwhelmed’ with positive responses – and has now planned a series of pub and coffee shop surgeries, starting on Friday, November 8, with venues and times to be confirmed via the MP’s social media feeds.
Meanwhile, Mr Amos has also confirmed his schedule for private surgeries.
