Mobile home “completely destroyed” in “suspicious” fire near Yeovil

A MOBILE homes was “completely destroyed” in a fire this morning (October 28) – which is being treated as “suspicious”.

The blaze, in the Chilthorne Domer area, was reported by a passer-by at just after 6am, with two fire crews sent to the scene from Yeovil.

“Once on scene, crews confirmed mobile home well alight and requested a third appliance, this was mobilised from Martock,” a Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said.

They said the wooden-clad mobile home measured 12m x 6m and was “well alight”, but confirmed there were no people inside when the fire broke out.

An extra crew from Somerton was sent out and the firefighters used eight breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets and one main jet to bring the blaze under control.

“Police have requested to attend and fire investigation is to take place due to this incident being treated as suspicious,” the spokesperson added.

“Joint police and fire service investigations will continue.”
