A SOMERSET mayor took a break from trading political blows in council meetings to take in a work out at a boxing gym.

Cllr Alice Samuel, mayor, and consort Sam joined High Sheriff of Somerset Rob Beckley to meet young boxers and coaches at Crewkerne Boxing Club and take in training sessions.

The visit came after young people from the club took part in the recent Crewkerne Civic Event.

“Mayor Alice presented the kids a special handmade trophy for their performance at the Townhall at the Crewkerne Civic Event, and they love it,” said a boxing club spokesperson.

“Well done kids for representing yourselves so well and a massive thank you to Crewkerne Town Council for your continued support.”

Crewkerne Town Council said the visitors were impressed by the “enthusiasm and focus” of members.
