Martock Rovers FC get a full-fibre funding boost from Gigaclear scheme

FUNDING from a scheme backed by England cricket legend Darren Gough will help youngsters in Somerset hoping to follow in his footsteps – but on the football pitch.

Budding Harry Kanes and Chloe Kellys in Martock have been given a boost towards achieving their dream thanks to the £100,000 Gigaclear Rural Sports Club Fund – which aims to support teams based in rural communities across the broadband company’s full fibre network.

Martock Rovers FC, who play fixtures at the Recreation Ground, in Church Street, was set up in 2004 to provide a safe and fun experience for children in the town and surrounding communities.

Now, through the fund, the club has been able to score new equipment, including training poles, rebound nets, flat discs, cones, free kick aids and goals to help the young footballers develop their skills.

Martock Rovers FC chair, John Knott, said: “Thanks to Gigaclear’s Rural Sports Club Fund, we’ve been able to invest in some fantastic new training equipment.

“Like all grassroots clubs, financing new equipment is always a challenge and so this sponsorship is a big boost.

“The new equipment will provide all our fantastic coaches with new options to help develop their players’ skills.

“From me, the coaches and all the players at Martock Rovers, we’d like to say a massive thank you to Gigaclear.”

Fund ambassador, cricket legend Darren Gough – who took more than 200 Test wickets for England – said: “Since launching the fund, it has gone from strength to strength, providing valuable support where it is needed most.

“It’s great to see so much kit and equipment being sent out to rural sports clubs such as Martock Rovers FC. I believe it will help make a difference to players now and to the rural sports teams of the future.”

The funding comes after more than 2,200 homes and businesses in Martock were connected to Gigaclear’s full fibre broadband network. For more details, visit Gigaclear.com.
