The incident, on the A371 in Dinder, happened at just after 3pm on Wednesday afternoon (February 18), police said, involving an Audi S3 and a VW Golf.

The Golf left the road after the crash and ended up in a nearby field, an Avon & Somerset Police spokesperson said.

“Sadly, the driver of the VW Golf, a man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene,” they added.

“His next of kin has been informed and they are being supported by a specialist family liaison officer. Our thoughts and condolences are with them during this incredibly difficult time.

“Two occupants from the Audi S3, also in their 30s, were taken to hospital with serious injuries. Their families have also been informed and will continue to be updated as the investigation continues.

“The road was closed for several hours while enquiries were carried out, but has since reopened.”

Officers are now appealing for information as they investigate the crash, urging anyone with doorbell, dashcam or CCTV footage, to come forward.

Anyone who can help should contact police on 101 and give the reference number 5226046895, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
