Last chance to have your say over plans to merge Huish Episcopi and Langport councils

A CONSULTATION over plans to merge two Somerset councils ends tomorrow – with people urged to have their say.

Somerset Council is recommending the merger of Langport Town Council and neighbouring Huish Episcopi Parish Council to create one authority.

Under the plans, the new parish council would have 11 councillors, and no wards, with members selected by voters regardless of location in the area.

After the scheme was put forward, an initial Somerset Council consultation earlier this year showed the majority of respondents favoured merging the councils.

As a result, the authority put forward a plan to consolidate the two, creating a new parish council covering both Langport and Huish Episcopi, with the town current councils being abolished.

Submissions to this final survey are being accepted until tomorrow (August 8), with a final decision set to be made in September. Any approved changes would be introduced in April 2027.

I live in Huish Episcopi , hopefully if the councils merge the village will still be recognised and not lost in the mist of time, when you look up the postcode Huish Episcopi is left out of the address. It only has Langport
