WHEN most of us think of rehoming an animal, we think of a dog, or a cat.
But at one Somerset rescue charity, there is an example of something different – rehoming a tortoise.
Tortellini, who is blind and aged around 65, was rehomed by the Ferne Animal Sanctuary, near Chard, in 2018 and the charity recently posted an update from the family that took him in.
“He’s blind, but seems to have no problem in finding his food,” they said. “Due to his age and temperature not dropping to below 10 degrees regularly in winter we were advised not to hibernate him and instead he wanders round the kitchen all winter and snuggles up to the Aga and enjoys outside life in the garden all summer.”
A Ferne spokesperson added: “What a lovely update. Thank you for sharing it and sweet photos of Tortellini enjoying his lunch.”
