Holiday let near Langport badly damaged by fire

A HOLIDAY let in Huish Episcopi was badly damaged by fire on Wednesday (January 21).

Firefighters were called to reports of a blaze at a timber building measuring 8m by 4m at around 6.55pm, with crews from Bridgwater, Martock and Somerton attending.

“Fire Control received a call regarding a holiday let on fire,” a Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said.

“On arrival, crews confirmed the property to be well alight with two potential gas cylinders involved. A water carrier was also requested to assist with water demands.”

They said the crews tackled the blaze using two main jets, a hose reel jet, a thermal imaging camera, triple extension ladder, small tools, battery operated tools and six sets of breathing apparatus.

At around 9pm, the fire was deemed “out” and that the “timber construction was fully involved in fire”.
