DOGS could be barred from part of a Yeovil park if plans to extend an order are approved.
Somerset Council is consulting on proposals to extend the area currently affected by a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) in Ninepsrings.
The proposed order relating to Ninesprings would cover the lower lake area, barring people from taking dogs – except assistance dogs – into the zone in a bid to protect wildlife habitats in the area.
Meanwhile, the second change covers dog fouling and keeping dogs on leads in public places across the former South Somerset District Council area.
Existing PSPOs are due to expire and the council is seeking the public’s views on extending the orders for a further three years.

PSPOs are enforceable under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, being used to protect the public from behaviour that affects their quality of life.
The PSPO Dog Exclusion Zone has been shown to be effective in dealing with complaints about dogs, the council said.
The consultations run until May 5 and can be accessed via somersetcouncil.citizenspace.com/comms/pspo-somerset-south-dog-exclusion-ninesprings (Ninepsrings) or somersetcouncil.citizenspace.com/comms/pspo-somerset-south-dog-fouling (dog fouling).

I vote not to change the restriction.
The existing restriction seems to suit all the public with or without dogs. To increase the restrictions will not suit dog owners and will not affect non-dog owners so causing upset unnecessarily.
I would suggest the improvement of habitat will be minimal because of the presence of the public.
Without seeing a map of the proposed new area un sure how I would get to the upper springs as my GS love’s nothing better than a swim, will this apply to the riverside walk in the future as dogs love too run.
Good decision as nature has enough predators to contend with I personally has dogs and many places available to walk
Keep dogs on leads on the main path . The land adjacent to the cafe where they have the outside tables .Plus the paths leading upto nine springs from the main path for 20 metres keep dogs on leads .
Hi Mark, it’s DH (from school). Been trying to locate you for years and found this. To confirm you who did your dad work for? What sport did we play after school?
Something definitely needs to be done about making sure dogs are kept on leads, so many are not, and I’ve requested people to pick up their dogs mess on numerous occasions as they let them roam and therefore don’t pay attention to them fouling. Also on numerous occasions I have come extremely close to being tripped up where dogs not on leads have run right across in front of me and I even had a dog run up behind me and caught the back of my foot taking my trainer right off!! It’s getting really bad. I feel for the people who do have their dogs on leads and under control, some of which are not friendly towards other dogs, which is why they very sensibly have them on leads.
Yes to protecting order and a big YES to making it compulsive to having dogs on leads and have wardens to enforce this. Dog fouling is ridiculous now and too many dogs not on leads walking across in front of people. I’ve nearly been tripped up on several occasions
I’m a dog owner and love wild life so whatever they do is for the best but !!! Not all dog owners are bad I do pick up my 💩 and control my dogs at all times and they are friendly to everyone!!! But people wih litter are guilty all the time just thought people could be more considerate sometimes
