Grants of up to £7,500 up for grabs for Somerset community projects

PROJECTS that build ‘stronger, connected communities’ in Somerset can apply for grants of up to £7,500 from a housing association.

Alliance Homes has launched its 2025 Communities Together Grants scheme, which is open to charities, community groups and organisations across North Somerset, Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Sedgemoor.

The housing association said the funding is aimed at supporting groups to deliver projects that benefit customers and communities, “connecting people and helping them lead happier, more independent lives”.

Funds can be used for a wide range of activities, from running events to improving access to essential services, as long as the proposed projects demonstrate they will benefit Alliance Homes customers.

Cath Pullin, service director for customer service operations at Alliance Homes, said: “We know how vital small grants can be for communities. Through this programme, we’re proud to support initiatives that bring people together, tackle challenges like loneliness, and make a positive difference.

“I look forward to seeing the ideas our communities come up with, and hearing about the impact they have on people living in our region and neighbourhoods.”

Last year, Alliance Homes awarded a total of £27,500 to various projects through Communities Together Grants.

Among them was the Pill Community Foundation’s Resource Centre, which received £3,500 to improve digital connectivity and access to support services for residents.

Sue Adamson, a volunteer at the Resource Centre, described the funding as “transformative”.

“We’re now better equipped to connect people with the information and support they need,” she added.

The Serendipity Craft Group, based in the Coronation neighbourhood of Weston-super-Mare, was awarded funding in 2023 to help them bring people together to tackle loneliness and isolation through arts and crafts.

The grant enabled the group to purchase new art materials, experiment with their projects and learn new skills.

Applications for funding are open until Sunday, February 16, and will be reviewed by a panel of Alliance Homes customers. For more information, and to download an application form, visit www.alliancehomes.org.uk/grants.
