‘Graffiti-style’ artists urged to pitch for new mural in Frome park

MURAL and graffiti-style artists are being urged to put themselves forward for a project in Frome.

Frome Town Council (FTC) is calling for proficient painters to create a new mural – measuring some 10.2 metres by 2.9m – on the mower shed in the town’s Victoria Park.

“Victoria Park is a much-loved green space in Frome, used year-round by families, sports clubs and people of all ages,” a spokesperson said.

“The mower shed is a small, practical building located on a well-used path between Victoria Park and Mary Baily.

“The wall of this building has been used as a prominent canvas for public art to date.

“The building is now ready for a refresh.”

Councillors were keen to hear from artists keen to create a “bold, super-realistic, graffiti-style mural” on the shed, with the brief setting out a desire for a design that “brings colour, creativity and energy to the park, making the building a visual feature, rather than a utilitarian space”.

They can work with aerosol paint, stencils, or mixed media, the brief said, while the resulting piece must be “weather-resistant and durable”.

FTC said it has a budget of £2,000 for the work, with the piece having to be approved before commission.

Expressions of interest should be made by August 29, with the successful artist selected on September 1, before the mural is completed by mid-October.
