Gaggle of geese stop Somerset police patrol in its tracks!

IN a scene befitting cop-comedy Hot Fuzz – much of which was filmed in Somerset – police were confronted with a distinctly ‘countryside’ problem when on patrol in the county on Sunday night.

Members of Avon & Somerset Police’s Street Neighbourhood Team were driving at Westhay Moor on Sunday evening (June 15) when they were forced to stop – not by a swan, as in the Hollywood hit movie – but by a gaggle of geese making its way across the road.

“Goose traffic control at Westhay Moor,” the team posted on social media.

“This evening, PCSO Cave from the Street Neighbourhood Team had an unexpected encounter while out on patrol — stopped in her tracks by a gaggle of geese crossing the road at Westhay Moor Nature Reserve.

“Sometimes, even the long wing of the law has to give way to nature.”

Thankfully, as the officer showed in photographs, the gaggle made its way safely to the other side in part with the help of its police escort. Why did the geese cross the road? That’s a joke for another time, perhaps…

The gaggle crossing the road...

The gaggle crossing the road…

... and safely across.

… and safely across.
