THE future of Badgers Hill Stadium in Frome will be discussed – and possibly decided – at a special meeting next week.
Frome Town Council (FTC) is set to hold an Extraordinary Council Meeting on Thursday, June 5, from 7pm, after receiving a proposal to lease the venue – with an option to buy it – from a private operator.
Councillors will consider the proposal before making a decision, aiming to hear from the public and all interested parties.
Anyone wanting to attend is required to book in advance, with details of how to attend in person and online to be shared in the coming days.
Chair of the council, Fiona Barrows, said: “It’s clear that many local people feel strongly and passionately about the football club, the footballing tradition in Frome and the stadium as a community asset.
“It’s why FTC stepped in to save Badgers Hill in 2022 when that asset was under threat, and we’re still invested in it.
“The council meeting on April 30 gave councillors an opportunity to hear from some of those people, but not all of the Badgers Hill stakeholders had an opportunity to share their view.
“Therefore, quite rightly, councillors decided against a final decision at that meeting.
“The extraordinary meeting on June 5 is a chance to hear from all the interested parties, with space for all to be heard, learn more about the potential lessee’s proposal and their intentions and make a fully informed decision.

“Space in the council chamber is limited and we’re expecting the meeting to be extremely busy, so only ticket holders will be able to attend in person. There will also be an opportunity to book tickets to join the meeting online.
“In the meantime, please use the directions in the public notice published on the FTC website and the current issue of Frome Times, also detailed below, to ensure your feedback is part of the discussion.”
The Extraordinary Council Meeting on June 5 is a public meeting, incorporating a private session for councillors, before the announcement of the council’s decision.
Any objections or representations about the proposal must be made in writing and sent to: Town Clerk, Frome Town Council, Frome Town Hall, Christchurch Street West, Frome, BA11 1EB, or emailed to engage@frometowncouncil.gov.uk, by 5pm on Tuesday, June 3.
