“ACTION, compassion, and a life of service that has inspired so many” has seen David and Catherine Atkins handed the Freedom of Street.
The pair were among a number of individuals and organisations honoured at Street Parish Council’s annual Community Awards and Investiture Ceremony, on June 4.
The event, at Strode Theatre, celebrated those whose “dedication and spirit have helped shape the life of the village”.
Catherine and David received the evening’s highest honour, the Freedom of Street, for their community efforts, including leading the Merriman Park Fun Day and researching Street’s war dead, to their commitment to the Merriman Park Community Group and the Street Twinning Association.
The Citizen of the Year 2025 award was presented to Henry Clamp, a cherished volunteer at the Crispin Community Centre.
“Henry’s boundless enthusiasm and kindness were celebrated, with special mention of his work with the Soup Kitchen, the Social Club, and events such as the Crispin ‘Extravaganza’,” a spokesperson said. “His cheerful dedication has touched many lives.”

“While there is much to celebrate, we proudly remain a village with community at its heart,” Cllr Knickerbocker added. “It is an honour and a privilege to continue serving the residents of Street.”
Vice chair, Cllr Thomson, said: “It was such an honour to be able to read the citation for David and Catherine Atkins, whom I have known since I was 11 years old. They are such an incredible couple who have inspired me personally to give back to the community in whatever way I can.”
