Four-bed house plan in Somerset pub BEER GARDEN!

A FOUR-BEDROOM house could be built in the BEER GARDEN of a Somerset pub, if plans are approved.

CPC Ltd, on behalf of Red Oak Taverns Ltd, has applied to Somerset Council for permission to build the detached property on land at the “traditional” Podymore Inn, in Podimore.

Under the plans, the beer garden east of the pub itself will be used for the new house, while a garden and children’s play area to the rear, will be retained.

“The proposed development results in a minor reduction to the public house’s parking by three spaces, retaining 28 spaces and will therefore not harm the future viability of the public house,” the plans said.

Drinkers will still be able to visit the pub during construction, the application went on, while “servicing and delivery arrangements for the public house will remain as existing”.

And the plans also added how the house itself could be home to new customers.

“Additionally, it is likely that the occupiers of the proposed dwellings will frequent the public house, bolstering its long-term viability and supporting the local economy,” it said.

Access would come from the current route for the pub, the plans added, with residents saying work has already been carried out on the plot, though planners have not yet reached a decision on the scheme.
