Former Somerset bakery could become two homes

A FORMER bakery in Wiveliscombe could be converted into two homes, if plans are approved.

Channel Architecture, on behalf of Bolton Property Developments, has applied to Somerset Council for permission to convert the premises – at 35 Golden Hill.

The former bakery, accessed from Newgate Lane, has been vacant for decades, according to the application, with the plans hoping to create a two-bed house and a one-bed house.

A parking space for each dwelling would also be created under the plans, with a timber storage area for bins.

“The conversion of the former bakery into two dwellings with associated parking will secure the long-term viable use of a vacant building, enhance its appearance through the reinstatement of natural slate roofing on the main dual-pitched roof, the safe renewal of the low-pitched garage roof, and the installation of consistent, energy-efficient uPVC windows and handmade timber pedestrian doors,” the application said.

“The development provides high-quality accommodation that meets national space standards,” it added, and “respects and reinforces the character of the Wiveliscombe Conservation Area without causing harm to its heritage significance”.
