A FORMER bank premises in Bridgwater could be converted into nine flats and apartments if plans are approved.
Lyndon Brett Partnership (LBP), on behalf of Jambart Estates Ltd, has applied for permission to convert the former Barclays Bank building, at 16 High Street, to create residential properties on the first and second floors.
The building, which features a grade II-listed frontage formerly of the Bristol and Exeter Hotel, has been vacant since Barclays closed in April 2023, with the curtilage not being altered under the scheme.
The ground floor space would be retained for business use, the plans said, with apartments and flats developed on the second and third floors.
A double garage block would provide parking, the application went on.
On the first floor, a total of seven properties are proposed, made up of six one-bed dwellings and one two-bed, while the second floor would see three one-bed properties developed.
“As a town centre conversion, there is no need for car parking spaces and the site does not permit such provision, but there is restricted on-street parking, ease of access to public transport – High Street bus stops and Northgate bus stops, plus parking at Angel Place Shopping Centre and the Northgate Yard car parks,” the plans said.
